My roommate told me about Son Pascal, who is apparently quite popular in Kazakhstan. He’s an Italian from London, and made this video on being an english man in Shymkent (as is obvious by the title of said video). He even sings in Kazakh, even though he doesn’t speak it.
I’ve never been to Shymkent myself, but was told by one of my coworkers that it’s quite a conservative place. Another person described it as the “Wild West” of Kazakhstan. After watching this video, I’m not sure what to think anymore, but I’d still like to visit!

Wait, what? What does New York have to do with Shymkent? Kind of sad, but I don’t think many people in New York know what Shymkent is…let alone where to locate Kazakhstan on a map…
